Good grapes can only prosper in healthy, well maintained vineyards. At first glance this seems like common sense; nevertheless, a winemaker can’t get around this fact if he wants to produce excellent wines.
I’ve always dreamed of being able to play out my ideas on top vineyard sites. Our Riesling and Pinot vineyards stand on the steep slopes and soft, rolling hills of some of the best sites in the area. When we acquired our vineyard portfolio, I newly planted some vineyards; others were already in an advanced age – some over 40 years old. Precisely with these ones, you can really experience the interaction of the vines with the geology and microclimate, and how this interaction is reflected in the different aromas.
